Dino Locator uses the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), an open database of biodiversity records contributed by museums and research institutions around the world. Species descriptions and images come from Wikipedia.

Your location is used only to search for fossil specimens discovered near you. It is used while the app is open, is never stored by us, and is never shared with anyone other than the GBIF search service that returns nearby results. You can also browse the map without granting location access.

GBIF records depend on what museums and researchers have digitized. Some regions have sparse coverage. Try zooming out on the map or increasing the search radius in Settings.

Add the Dino Locator widget from your Home Screen (long-press the Home Screen, tap +, and search for Dino Locator). It features a new fossil each day. You can also enable a daily notification in the app's Settings tab.

Yes — notifications are optional and off by default. You can toggle them in the app's Settings tab, or in iOS Settings > Notifications > Dino Locator.

No. Fossil records shown in the app are historical occurrence data. Many sites are on private land or protected areas, and fossil collection is regulated in most places. Always check local laws and obtain permission before any fossil hunting.
